Henry Roth Dishes Up His Top Five Celebrity Weddings of All Time.

Roth calls for time to re-romance celebrity weddings post-Kardashian backlash.

New York, NY/ Sydney, Australia (PRWEB) February 22, 2012

Leading bridalwear designer, Henry Roth, today announced its time to re-romance celebrity weddings in a look back to the most famous celebrity nuptials and style of all time. From the dresses to the leading ladies—and grooms—here, Roth looks back on some of weddings’ greatest starry moments.

Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco – ’50s Inspiration for Brides

Paving the way for the celebrity brides who would walk down aisles in her wake, Hollywood golden girl Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956, in a wedding befitting the legendary fairytale romance. Her silk and lace dress started a trend for the full wedding dress, and continues to inspire bridalwear to this day.

Henry says: “Grace Kelly was the first celebrity bride who made women everywhere think that maybe their prince might indeed come. Her dress was absolute perfection and more than 50 years on, is still so timeless in its elegance and beauty.”

Victoria Adams and David Beckham – 21st Century Princess Re-born

On July 4th, 1999 Spice Girl, Victoria Adams, married heartthrob footballer, David Beckham, in a romantic ceremony at Luttrelstown Castle in Dublin, Ireland. Victoria wore a Vera Wang wedding dress and an eighteen carat gold crown for the service. At the wedding reception, the newlyweds requested that all the guests wore black and white and the bride and groom changed in to matching purple outfits.

Henry says: “The party was a little bit footballers wife, considering the elegance and good taste now modeled by Victoria—from the thrones to the crowns! But the ceremony was its antedote with a romantic fairytale setting. And her dress? Perfection!”

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale – The Blushing Bride is Avant Garde

In September 2002 Gwen Stefani married Gavin Rossdale in London’s Covent Garden. The bride chose a breathtaking wedding dress designed by her close friend—and now disgraced designer–John Galliano for Dior. The dress, dip-dyed in pink, caused a sensation. She carried orchids and her grandmother’s prayer book.

Henry says: “When Gwen revealed her dress back in 2002, we drew gasps. The perfect marriage of fairytale and rockstar… Just like her own relationship with Gavin Rossdale.”

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise – The Hollywood Glamour Bride

Following a whirlwind romance that became one of Hollywood’s most talked about couplings of all time, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes wed in 2006 in a decadent ceremony at an Italian castle. Guests included Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Lopez, the bride and groom both wore Armani and music came courtesy of Mark Ronson.

Henry says: “It started with jumping on couches, but there was nothing loud or brash about Katie and Tom’s wedding. Classy, romantic and elegant—from the bias-cut Armani gown, to the intimate Italian setting.”

Kate Middleton and Prince William – The Ultimate Classic Bride Revisited

Last Spring, Kate Middleton made every girl believe in fairytales, when she married England’s Prince William in a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding gown. The wedding, watched by billions, was part pomp and circumstance and part intimate celebration—perfectly befitting of the world’s new favorite couple. The wedding dress drew global gasps as absolute perfection for the bride as she became Britain’s new princess.

Henry says: “The perfect ‘and they lived happily ever after’ moment. From the gown to the setting… This Royal wedding restored faith in a nation and in romance.”

Oscars dresses: the very best and worst Academy Award frocks EVER

Since we all know the that The Artist will win everything from Best Picture to Best On-set Portaloo, the only thing left to speculate about is the dresses. Ah, the dresses… Obviously no one will ever beat Bjork in her Marjan Pejoski creation, but will anyone fail as badly as poor old Gwyneth Paltrow in her ill-fitting pink Ralph Lauren gown to go with the great blub-fest of 1999? Perhaps the actress herself will – there’s also the Alexander McQueen fiasco of 2002 to consider (it ended up in her dustbin the next day – sad face), although please do bear in mind how she redeemed herself in Calvin Klein last year…

Other all time favourites include, obviously, Michelle Williams in her mustard Vera Wang, Keira Knightley also in Vera Wang (which she gave to Oxfam afterwards), Hilary Swank for proving that high neck could be sexy in Guy Laroche, Julia Roberts in her vintage Valentino, Kate Winslet in good old Ben de Lisi, Marion Cotillard in her Dior scales, Penelope Cruz in her frothy Versace and, actually now in hindsight, Halle Berry in her sheer Elie Saab creation. Meanwhile, on the not so great front, we have Jennifer Lopez looking preggers in Marchesa, Scarlett Johansson in her Dolce and Gabbana (albeit not helped by her hair) and Renee Zellweger, probably in Carolina Herrera, looking too skinny to make it to the podium.

Come on, Gwynnie, all eyes are on you! How about recycling Cher’s 1986 number?

Awards, Celebrity Fashion, Oscars, Red Carpet, What are they wearing?, Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, Bjork, Cameron Diaz, Cate Blanchett, Celine Dion, Cher, Christina Applegate, Diane Kruger, Gwyneth Paltrow, Halle Berry, Helena Bonham Carter, Hilary Swank, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Roberts, Kate Hudson, Kate Winslet, Keira Knightley, Lourdes, Madonna, Marion Cotillard, Michelle Williams, Miley Cyrus, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Renee Zellweger, Sandra Bullock, Sarah Jessica Parker, Scarlett Johansson, Selma Blair

This Sunday night, Matt Lickona and I will be seated before our television sets and laptops providing Big Screen readers with a blow-by-blow description of the 84th Annual Academy Awards. I was with Matt on Sunday night and he gave me a sneak peek at his “Black by Vera Wang” tuxedo. Très magnifique! As always, I’ll be decked out in the latest duds from Sears’ Ed Asner Collection.

The pre-game festivities commence at something like 4 a.m., but we won’t start blogging until just before the 5:30 p.m. kick-off. Make sure to stop by and leave a snarky comment or two.

In honor of Him, I ask that you all have a phone in your hand to throw across the room when Marty loses to the silent-darling. After the inevitable defeat, I ask that you all step out of character and behave like rabid sports fans after their team loses. No, don’t beat your spouse, just take to the streets in a drunken fit of rioting, looting, and overturning cars. That’ll show ‘em who’s the boss!

Maria Sharapova Dishes on New York Fashion Week

MARIA’S ROLE MODELS: Maria Sharapova found lots of inspiration during last week’s New York Fashion Week. When she talks about the experience, Sharapova sounds like an aspiring ready-to-wear designer. “I’m putting the finishing touches on my fall-winter 2012 Cole Haan collection,” she said. “The use of a neutral color palette that Vera Wang showcased in her show — gray and blush — is found in my Cole Haan collection. In thinking about spring-summer 2013 for Cole Haan, I found the use of embellishment and rich materials at the Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta shows, and the lace detailing at Rodarte, to be very directional.” Sharapova collaborates with Nike on tennis apparel and Cole Haan on footwear and handbags. “This was my second visit to New York Fashion Week,” Sharapova said. She offered her own show reviews.

On Vera Wang: “The elegance of Vera Wang was breathless to watch. She worked elegant and romantic materials in a neutral gray and nude color tone.”

On Rodarte: “From patterned coats to knee-high lace-up boots, Rodarte had a clever energy, opening the show with one of my favorite U2 tunes.”

On Marc Jacobs: “It was the over-the-top hats and the fabrics that caught my eye — brocades, tweeds and tulles with pops of color on a palette of blacks and grays.”

On Oscar de la Renta: “A blend of a classic ladylike looks with a modern twist and intricate embellishment on traditional silhouettes or gorgeous ballgowns with tulle skirts that looked as if they could float down the runway. My favorite look was a white minidress adorned with paillettes and a puffed skirt.”

Even if Sharapova never designs rtw, she may have a career as a fashion critic.

Oscar Fierro will be one of 14 designers competing to win the latest fashion show.

A Lewisville fashion designer will get the chance to become the next Oscar De La Renta or Vera Wang when he appears on a new reality show.

Lewisville resident Oscar Fierro was chosen to be a contestant on NBC’s Fashion Star. Fierro will be one of 14 designers competing to become America’s next big fashion icon. Fashion Star premieres at 8:30 p.m. March 13 on NBC. It will air every Tuesday.

“Typically, I would not do a reality show or competition, but when I found out about the show, and who was going to be on it, I thought I had to do it,” Fierro said. “This was a way to bypass cable and hit network television. I was lucky enough to be picked from thousands. It was hard to get on the show. The application process was grueling and psychologically hard. You had to have your A game at all times, but I would do it again in [a] heartbeat.”

Fashion Star scoured the country in search for the next big brand in fashion. The show features host and executive producer Elle Macpherson along with celebrity mentors Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, and John Varvatos. The series will give 14 unknown designers the chance to win a multi-million dollar prize to launch their collections in three of America’s largest retailers Macy’s, HM, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Fierro began designing and making clothes when he was 11 years old.

“I spotted a beautiful girl and wanted to make dress for her for her to enter into a pageant, which she won,” Fierro said. “Designing that was just one of those ah-ha moments. The first thing I thought when I saw her, was that we need to do something with that beauty.”

Fierro grew up in a poverty-stricken town in El Salvador. He said that only further fed his desire to become successful. Currently, Fierro owns four assisted living facilities and has designed several clothing lines including couture dresses and a “to go” line, which features women’s wear for less than $30.

“At one point, I had my own store, but I went belly up because the rent was too high,” Fierro said. “I made the hard decision to close the store because at that time it wasn’t the right thing to do.”

On March 1, Fierro will launch his online store at www.oscarfierro.net. He said the site will feature his designs ranging from high-end fashion to the “to go” line.

“When I design, I stay away from trends and design what I want. The first thing is to walk through fabric stores and let the fabric talk to me,” Fierro said. “I don’t sketch, I drape across the dress form because I get a better sense of how the fabric will fall off the body. I go into stores with an empty cabinet and walk out with idea of design.”

Fierro said his motto when designing is “more is more.” He said he is over the top, and his designs represent that.

Fierro said his favorite clothing to design is evening wear.

“I like to make things that are big, exciting, and exotic,” Fierro said.

Fierro said his favorite designer is De La Renta because he has been able to survive the fashion industry, and his style is classy and elegant.

“I can see a lady wearing his design, and I don’t have to see the label to know it’s one of his creations. I think as a designer that’s something I envy, and I would like to achieve,” Fierro said. “For me, as a designer, the most gratifying moment is, after working so hard on making a collection, to see it on the runway and see the reactions of people. It’s like a mother seeing her daughter’s wedding or graduation.”
